چکیده
Objective To determinate the prognostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) changes during first two days admission to ICU with sepsis and/or septic shock, compare it in Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE-II) Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores. Methods A single-center prospective observational study was performed. Fifty consecutive patients admitted ICU, diagnosed severe sepsis/septic shock were included. We considered risk factors for infection: diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), previous antibiotic treatment, central intravascular catheter, bladder active neoplasia. Results Median aged 67(52-75) years median APACHE-II 19(14-25) points SOFA scores 7(5-11) on admission, 28-day mortality 42%. When we studied relationship between day second variables studied, found that (p = 0.001) 0.002) raised significantly no survivors, significant CRP PCT. Multivariate analysis showed associated score (odds ratio [OR], 2.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.18-3.86) presence one or more infection (OR, 6.01; CI, 1.01-35.78) but not PCT changes. Mortality also related variations fifth 0.002), < 0.012). Conclusions Changes are sensitive predictors than observed values. levels may be useful as an additional marker patient outcome.

Risk Factors and Prognostic Factors of Acute Renal Failure in Patients Admitted to an Intensive Care Unit, Tehran-Iran
Acute renal failure (ARF) is defined as a sudden and continuous decrease of glomerular function associated with azotemia, and may be followed by decreased urinary output. There is a high incidence of ARF in ICU patients with a high mortality rate. Many factors can promote ARF development or influence its outcome. This study was done to assess the incidence, risk factors, outcome and treatme...

BACKGROUND Several prognostic systems have been developed and validated in general Intensive Care Units (ICUs). No assessment of these scores was performed in specialized Gastroenterology Intensive Care Units (GICUs). AIM To assess the prognostic accuracy of Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II, Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) II and Sequential Organ Failure Ass...
متن کاملAssociation between admission hypomagnesemia mortality or mortality of critically ill patients in intensive care unit
Background: Up to now there is no study evaluating correlation between serum magnesium and morbidity or mortality in patients admitted in intensive care unit. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in critically ill patients and to evaluate its association with organ dysfunction, hospitalization period and mortality. Methods: We conducted a retrospective trial ...
